Food Festival – Majuli

A national – level Food Festival was organized in Majuli , as a part of the North East Youth Festival by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports , Government of India . The North East Youth Festival , themed ” Youth for Environment , Heritage and Culture ” , was held to bring out a spirit of unity and teamwork among the youth of the region as well as to showcase their culture and traditions . Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan worked towards bringing the participants from various parts of the country under this one roof .

The Food Festival , entitled ” All India festival of Cuisines ” , was aimed to spread awareness about various food items and dishes from all over the country . Gujarat , Rajasthan , Jammu & Kashmir , Bihar and all the North Eastern States did a splendid job in showcasing their traditional food items in this festival .

All the participating states bought along their specialized chefs , who worked in kitchens adjacent to the stalls , to provide their own delicious food to any interested visitors of the Food Festival . While a beautiful Kashmiri girl in a Hijab served a version of Quhwah ( Kashmiri Tea ), a cool Bihari guy in a funky attire caught  the attention with his style of making Sattu (roasted gram flour) drink ! The North Eastern States proved to everyone that when it comes to cuisines , the seven sisters are second to none . The Momos from Sikkim , the Pork from the Nagaland , Eromba from Manipur , Pithas from Tripura , a special Lemon Juice from Mizoram ,  Bamboo delicacy from Arunachal Pradesh and Jolpan from Assam were among the toppers of our list !!!

What added to the excitement was how that the people were all dressed in their cultural attires . Everyone was so eager to tell the guests more about their food , the ingredients and how they were cooked . Some of them even allowed us to go to their kitchens and give us a firsthand look of their cooking procedures .

The food alongside the various cultural , sports and adventure activities made this event special for not only the participants , but also the local people of the region . On behalf of all the people of Majuli and Assam as a whole , we want to thank the Central Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports , Mr. Sarbananda Sonowal , local Member of Parliament ,  Mr. Kamakhya Prasad Tasa  and all the organizers for making this event happen .
